The Pinnacle of Evolution

Consider…

The number of hours you have spent providing for the needs of your life. Consider how hard you have worked to attain all that you have now.

View this effort in terms of your lifetime. One lifetime contains approximately 106,000 hours of work, including school.  Take a moment to make this number experiential that is, close your eyes and reflect upon how hard you work.  From the most detailed and intricate actions you may have performed to big physical movements. Think of how much you have given, how much you have gained and how much you have learned.  If you wrote it all out it would probably fill a number of books.  Think of whom you have been on book 1, page 1 compared to who you are now on book _, page _.

It’s important to acknowledge where you have come from.

Let’s take this acknowledgment a step further.

Life started on Earth about 3.5 billion years ago.  3.5 billion years later here you are!

From the simplest life form to the incredibly complex being that you are, life has gone through struggle after struggle to create you.  From basic elements forming molecules to bacteria forming colonies to the complex social structure of predator and prey, evolution spent countless hours over the course of millennia to create the body you now possess!

With all the attention we give to ourselves and the details of our lives we often fail to recognize that we are at a pinnacle of evolution (for now).  As we all love stories of struggle and overcoming odds, if you stop for a moment to consider the heroic hardships our distance ancestors must have faced it would bring tears to your eyes.  The sacrifices undocumented, risks faced and challenges overcome would fill story after story.

The body that you wear is based upon trial after trial after trial over the course of billions of years of struggle to survive and adapt to the ever-changing circumstances of climate, environmental and competition shifts.

Take a moment to appreciate that your body functions amazingly well without your input or attention.  All you have to do is feed it, keep it clean, and provide it with exercise and rest.  This is nature’s gift to you.  All that you enjoy is based upon this gift.  Everything you experience: from the conversation you enjoy, the variety of foods you eat, the clothes you wear and the keyboards you type on are all based upon your body’s ability to seamlessly interact with the environment.

Our bodies are evolutionary pieces of art sculpted over the ages!  Take the time to consider how amazing you are!  For a moment, forget about appraising your life based upon what you think you should have or who you should be in this life.  Just for a moment remember you are an evolutionary creature who has reached a pinnacle of development.  And your story does not end here.  Each of us is able to shape our own destiny through our choices and actions.

Remember:

No one thinks like you!
No one see the world quite the way you do!
No one has had the experiences that you have had!
Change is an inherent in the body that you wear!

Make the most of who you really are.
