Nervous System Integration – What’s That?

Information.  It circles the globe in the blink of an eye. Yet how much of what we learn truly helps to improve the quality of our lives?

The nervous system is a living computer that learns through experience. Each experience provides bytes of information that is absorbed by the body/mind to be processed and integrated into the whole.  But without adequate downtime, information bottlenecks and deeper learning cannot occur.

I have found there to be many realms of learning.  All involve me, my mind and my body.  Surface learning consists of facts and figures.  Deeper learning penetrates the cells of my body and transforms how I perceive reality.

Each experience can be viewed as an opportunity to reach deeply into one’s self.  To do so requires a willingness to be affected by what you experience.  This means staying alert internally as well as externally.  This is not all that easy.  We are conditioned to jump from one event to another without stopping to “smell the roses” yet this pause can be crucial to deepening your experience of life.

Imagine missing the greatest moments of your life because you were too busy thinking about the next event on your agenda.

The key is to slow down and focus on each experience as deeply as you can.  It helps to remember that you are only visiting planet Earth for a limited time. So, take the time to exercise your senses! Appreciation of Life improves by focusing on each sensation, savoring each flavor or scent and absorbing all that you see and hear.
